2024 Women to Watch

This year we showcase over 80 South Australian women to watch throughout the year. From business, to careers, arts to science. This year’s selected women highlight the depth and diversity of the women in our state and also the vast array of opportunities to develop a business or career in South Australia. Find our more about our inaugural Women to Watch initiative here.

I am an Adelaide-based Career Coach who empowers individuals to make the next move in their career – so they can be in their dream job and enjoy flexibility, financial abundance and job satisfaction. I support clients to create clarity on their dream career path, build their mindset and implement the required strategy to achieve their career goals. My background in Psychology, previous career in corporate recruitment, and personal experience of feeling stuck in my job allows for my clients to have a truly transformational coaching experience.

// Let’s get to know you
I studied a Bachelor of Psychological science (Honours) which I loved! But upon graduating, I realised the clinical psych pathway wasn’t for me. I randomly wound up in recruitment (which was a blessing) and fell in love with the people-side of the work. Quit my job start of 2020 to go travelling and then covid hit. I fell in a slump. Picked myself up, enrolled in a life coach training course and started my business mid 2021. Today I combine everything – psych foundation, recruitment experience and life coach training to work with clients in a career coaching capacity. Highlights involve launching my podcast “Touching base with Matilda Rose”, delivering group workshops (despite my fear of public speaking) and growing my own self-belief in who I am and what I am capable of.

// What makes you a Woman to Watch for 2024?
I am a woman to watch for 2024 because each year I feel like I get more in my zone as a Career Coach. As the personal referrals ramp up, so too has my own belief in my skills and capability. Recently I’ve launched a podcast to support a wider audience with career clarity, mindset and strategy. These three core principles make up my unique coaching framework: The Next Career Move Method. As well as working in my business, I am a resume writer for an outplacement organisation, which has only further honed my skills to support my clients.

// What are you most looking forward to in 2024?
Growing my confidence in public speaking, travel (with my laptop and resumes to write), strengthening existing client relationships, building new client relationships, doing more in person networking, forming partnerships with industry.

// What challenges may you face this year to reach your 2024 goals?
When I first began my business I was balancing it with full time work, which was a huge challenge. Both mentally and logistically. I worked most nights and weekends to try and stay ahead. It was also challenging still being in my corporate role as I had completely lost interest/passion for the work given I was so invested in my business and work as a coach.

Another huge challenge previously mentioned is mindset. Not feeling like I’m doing enough, I am enough or I’m worthy of success in my business. As an entrepreneur you’re constantly questioning yourself and sometimes it can take a bit longer to pull you out of the overthinking/negative mindset. Challenges this year in reaching my aspirations will be: staying committed to my purpose and not getting sidetracked from that, saying ‘no’ to opportunities because I am scared/don’t think I’m worthy, and saying ‘yes’ to things that take up time and space required for my business, goals, and action.

// What would you like to see for the future of South Australian women and girls?
More education at a younger age!! I wish we were taught more about finances (super, investing, stock market and everything financial in-between) at school. The other thing is female health – all I learnt at school was how to put a condom on a banana. I wish we learnt about infertility, endometriosis, optimal conception, parenting, the seasons of our period etc.
