Meet SA Woman Member, Danielle Hayes.

Business/Organisation: Calm Kids: Counselling & Wellbeing Services
Job Role: Founder, Counsellor, Parent Coach, Writer, Speaker

Tell us a bit about you:

Danielle Hayes is the founder of Calm Kids: Counselling & Wellbeing Services – a holistic mental health support service for children and adolescents in Australia. She also co-founded Time For Change, an educational wellbeing and consulting service in Bali, Indonesia.

After a 30-year career in education as a teacher, school counsellor and the principal of a holistically-based International School, Danielle felt that she needed to step out of the school system to advocate further for increased trauma awareness within schools and families. Danielle now works individually with children, adolescents and families as a holistic counsellor, providing time and a safe space for children and parents to explore their challenges and co-create their own healing journey. She is fascinated by current research into Interpersonal Neurobiology and Polyvagal Theory and describes herself as an avid lifelong learner.

Danielle is deeply passionate about the mental health challenges faced by educators and parents. Together with her partner, Anthony, she presents engaging workshops to educators, parents, and community groups in Australia and internationally. Her workshop topics include ‘Conscious Parenting’, ‘Parenting Your Anxious Child’, ‘Calm Teachers—Calm Kids’, and ‘Co-Regulation For Learning’. Danielle is also an Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine, writing on the topics of Parenting and Child/Adolescent Mental Health.

Outside of her professional life, Danielle finds inspiration in her personal relationships. Her partner of 33 years, Anthony, her two adult children, Caitlin and Connor, and her new granddaughter, Blair, are her greatest sources of joy. She also loves to travel the world, drawing inspiration from the diverse cultures she encounters. Danielle now divides her time between Australia and her ‘soul home’, Bali, where she finds peace and rejuvenation.

Tell us a bit about your business or organisation/role:
At Calm Kids, we provide person-centred counselling, helping children, teenagers, and families manage anxiety and depression, heal past or present trauma, and manage big emotions or unhelpful thoughts. We embrace each child and young person for being their unique selves and see them as their own person rather than their diagnosis or label. Our supportive, safe environment enables them to feel heard, and to play an active role in their healing journey which is uniquely tailored to suit their individual needs and learning style. We believe in a strengths-based, trauma-informed model of care. Our therapists come from various professional backgrounds, including education, disability services, counselling, and wellbeing coaching.
